I thought I'd get a small RP running here, as we're waiting for something to happen again, it will take place in the new town of Richardsville, a town built by entrepreneur JH Richards (that's me ^^) and it's surroundings, which will be a forest, a mountain and a desert, just to get the terrain clear. Anyone who want to join in, please do so! It's your imagination that decides what's going on in and around town, it is you players who decide how the desert, mountain and forest looks like. I will just provide the guidelines, I will also be the Gamemaster of this RP, so if there are any conflicts about anything, send me a PM. I will also be the one responsible for any events. If necessary, I'll appoint an able volunteer to help me with events. Note that you may join in at ANY TIME, just write your profile down in this thread and join in at the main thread! ^^
I also want to point out that this is a freeform RP, there are not going to be any restrictive rules, you, the players are the ones who are going to solve fights and so on by common sense and yourselves. As GM, I'm only here to observe and be consulted with questions. And please note that my character, J.H. Richards are not immortal, but I don't want any "let's all hunt down and kill Richards!" ;)[/b]
If you have more questions, please send me a PM about it and we'll clear it out.
Richardsville - The newly built town, created by the entrepreneur James Hubert Richards. The only businesses in town are owned by JH Richards, those businesses are a saloon, a brothel and a hotel. There also moved in an undertaker just days after the town was finished. Otherwise, the town is open to all kind of businesses there might be people interested in starting up. Including competitive saloons, hotels and so on, but JH is not known to be a honest man, so those who run up against him can expect some dirty tricks from what have been told. (If someone wishes to form a garrison of some sort, you're more than welcome. Also, if you wish to play a special part, like the sheriff or the colonel, please state so in your profile under "Role" and I'll review it. Richardsville is also in the need of a tax collector. :))
The Forest - The forest is a dark place, about 30 km's northwest of Richardsville. It's a popular place for desperados and outlaws to hang out in. Anyone who wish to play an outlaw is welcome to have his bands' hideout in The Forest, but The Forest is also the homestead of the infamous "Spectres", known for looting and burning down farms and ranches too close to "their" Forest. That way, Richardsville is in the dangerzone of being raided. (If anyone want to play the leader or a member of the Spectres, please state so in your profile under "Role" and I'll review it. :))
The Mountains - In the mountains, 7 km's north of Richardsville, the indians* has their camp. They haven't been aggressive towards the miners and farmers in this area, but have been increasingly hostile since the construction of Richardsville. There is several mines in the mountains and there used to be small miner settlements, but after Richardsville was founded, most miners has their base there instead, though a couple of small settlements are still left in the mountains. If anyone want to play a trapper or tracker living in the mountains, you're probably on good foot with the indians* (And if you want to play the chief of the indians*, state so in your profile under "Role".) You can of course be a member of the tribe without being the chief, but if a player wanted to be the chief, it would help.
The Desert - The Desert, 45 km's south of Richardsville, is a hangout for a band of mexican outlaws calling themselves "Los Caballistas de la Muerte". They have a camp based in the ruins of an old fort and base all their raids from there, now the closest town has become Richardsville, which might make it a good target for an assault. There isn't much other life in the Desert, so if you want to hang out there, you are a member of them. If you want to play their leader, state so in your profile under "Role".
Everybody can go anywhere, of course, but some people tend to be in certain places a bit more than others.
The Profile
Name: (The Name of your character) Age: (The age of your character) Nationality: (The nationality of your character) Height: (The height of your character) Weight: (The weight or how your character is built) Profession: (What your character is trained to do for a living) Role: (What your character really do for a living in the RP)
Background: (Completely OPTIONAL)
In the next post, I'll create my profile, you can use it as an example if you wish. And as I said before, if you have ANY questions at all, don't hesitate to ask. :) I hope there will be some interest in this, so we can make time fly by. ^^

In a couple older MMOs, there was a feature where players could enter their own Bio. We all know that when that kind of freedom is permitted, some people create RP introductions such as the ones posted here, while other people create absurdities.
During character creation, the current direction is for players to answer a series of questions, and choose from a variety of ethnicity's that will generate a default background about your character. Posterity Points may be rewarded for RPing your character within the scope of the background set (undefined as of yet), and at the same time, it may teach players a little bit about the different kinds of people and lifestyles on the Frontier. Is this something that you think would be worthwhile, or would you rather have the option to create your own Bio?

You know i am not sure, both ways are a pain in the .... Many people cba to write or enter a BIO so answering questions may work, then other people will do their best to avoid any of the questions and get in game to be uber and pwn all... even the answer of allowing either method or better yet answer the questions which fills text into an edit box that you can then add to or alter to better suit your Bio idea may work all the better?
so many questions so many answers,... one thing that remains true... i hate rping on forums in the 3rd person historic manor that most rp'ers want.. or simply i am not very good at it... however: Name: Jaysan Daniel Calof Age:17 Nationality: American born Irish descent Height: 6' Weight: 160lbs Profession: wanders here and there hang out till no longer wanted and runs away... bit of a pick pocket Role: raising hell before he get shot to death Background: Born in Gelena Illinois, he grew up around the railroad, and later worked on the boats that plyed their trade around Galena. Then got into some trouble over a gun, he found he could shoot real fast and straight and took off heading west, been heading west ever since, that was about a year ago...

I agree with what you say about absurdities when you give everyone to free reign to right their own bios, i think the best option will be the second one but i would probably like the 1st one best..or a combination of both even. Like you right you character biography and then it gets submitted and aproved before it will appears..or something like that.

I would rather have it, than nothing at all... best of all worlds would be a combination, where we can update the Bio after creation. IMHO of course. Name: Milo O'Seay - "Talks with dogs" Age: 22 Nationality: Irish Father - Lakota Mother Height: 5ft 8in Weight:160lbs Muscular Profession: Scout Role: (TBD) Background: Milo is a crack shot with a rifle, excellent close quarters fighter, and can track just about anything, over a wide variety of terrain types. Cureently, he is broadening his knowledge of the whiteman's world, by Scouting for the Cavalry. while he keeps mostly to himself, Milo rarely misses anything going on around him. History: Only child of an Irish explorer/artist that 'married into the Lakota tribe. Milo's Lakota name comes from his affinity with all animals, especially the canines. The name was cinched when, as a wee lad of 10, he was confronted by a she wolf after stumbling upon her lair... Milo's father, with the help of two braves, set out after Milo when he had not returned from foraging with the other youngsters his age, and finding out the others had "accidently" left him behind, set out after him. It was near sunset, when the search party came upon a most amazing site. There near the lair, was young Milo, frolicking about with the she wolf's pups, while she kept watch from a ledge above the lair. A short whistle and bark from one of the braves put the she wolf on alert, as Milo became aware of the lateness of the day. He too heard the call, realizing what was about to happen, he stood spread armed facing the wolf, bowed his head, and retreated to where the search party stood in amazement. From that day on, Milo was known as "Talks with dogs" okay, it was long winded, but I edited it down from the five pages I came up with originally... Please correct any errors I may have made in describing the younger tribe members as Lakota braves, and other such mistakes. I am not the most knowledgeable in Amer-Indian society, but I am one of the most willing to learn.
