ok I give this writing an try,. if it is good I may give you the trappers story next. (and the human trapper story. am workin on them both. different twist)
-------Walks Swiftly's story------
Word had come that an bison herd had been spotted a few miles to the west. The scouts had come back, new scouts had went out to trail the herd.. all were preparing for the move. The braves were gathering there weapons choosing there ponies and headin out. The women children and old were breakin camp and preparing to follow the herd. Some braves had stayed behind to guard the tribe and drive the pony herd along.
I Walks Swiftly had takin my prize pony Sun Runner and headed out to trail the herd. The hunt chief had decreed that when the sun was 2 fingers past center the hunt would begin. I would be on the right front and I planned and feverently hopped to get 3 of the beasts. The hides would warm us in the comin cold moons and the meat would feed us. No part of the beast would be wasted.
The women would follow and skin an butcher the beast as they found them. And camp would be set up where they found them. Then others would bring the meat and hides back to that place.
I had my bow and a dozen arrows. When the time given was at hand a whoop sounded and we all rode down upon the herd I dropped an young bull with 2 arrows into the heart and rode after an cow. As I rode along side her I fired 3 arrows into her shoulder and she dropped. Out of corner of my eye I saw the old bull. He was comin at me. Sun Runner jumped out of his path but he spun an caught Sun in the belly. I jumped clear as Sun Runner collapsed. I rolled and came up on my feet and turned just as he caught me. He threw me up in air and stomped on me. Then he just wandered away. As though he no longer was interested in me.
The herd has moved off now. The other braves still are chasin and taking meat. The women will becoming soon to butcher those that have fallen. I can’t seem to stand…is ok I will just lie here and catch my breath. The sun is so warm. And there is an glow about the earth. Ah here comes Wolf’s Dancer. He will see me and help me get back to camp…... I call out to him, but he seems not to notice me.. with great effort I stand and run behind him. I yell at him to come back, I am hurt and need help.. but he just rides on.
Next come the women and they start wailing, and ripping out hair and cutting themselves. I look to see where they are gathering.. that is me. Why am I here but yet there on ground…I hear a voice. It is familer but has been so long since I heard that voice. Is my grandfather. He is standing beside me. He says it is time to move on to lodge in yonder forest… I go with him……

Aye gresat story, short, but, otherwise great. As Indianhunter said nice twist at the end, not alll stories do have a happy ending, like they most of the time
want
us to think or
teach/i]growin' up. Fairy tales an' "Every story has a happy endin'" stories ruin a kid, because it's not true when RL hits 'em in their teens, young adult, an' adult life. WE shouldn't be teachin''em that. We're givin' 'em false hope.
